i know lots of people have waxed poetics about the line and I'll make it clear I wont be saying much that hasn't been said before right now but

i just fucking love the line, "you're Cavendish, waddya gonna do?" it isn't just about the central thing behind the line which is that Dakota could not imagine taking any other actions than he has because Cavendish just means that much to him, but also because the line could have been "you're my partner/best friend, so waddya gonna do?" and purely highlighted the relationship aspect. however, with the line in the show there's an aspect of Dakota saying that if the world knew Cavendish like he did they'd all agree too ("he's Cavendish, waddya gonna do.") that Cavendish absolutely being worthy of what Dakota has done for him is as "objective" as the sky being blue.

saw someone being wrong about kon on the internet again (i know. shocking) and you are all so lucky i'm sick and feverish and lazy because i DID just seriously entertain the thought of writing up a small essay complete with issue and panel citations about why it's simply incorrect to say that kon never really seemed to reciprocate any sort of crush on tim before geoff/tt03. this is just not true. you dont have to actually ship them but to downplay their importance to each other even in the earliest days is simply incorrect. i'm too tired and achy to bother digging through comics to pull up all the issues that have the bits i want to point at but like... they were both very mutually important to each other from early on. it was in no way shape or form one-sided, whether you want to read that as platonic or romantic. man.

Sort of going off my last Seam post, if they really were carried everywhere before finally be left in the unused classroom.... would that play into their nihilism? I need to reread their dialogue again, but from what I remember they seem very uncaring towards the relationship between lightners and darkners (something we see other characters put a lot of emphasis on). If they were carried everywhere by someone who was attached to them, and in the end left in a classroom never to be used again, would that affect the way they feel about lightners?

Like I said I'll need to look at their dialogue again-- I certainly don't think they outright HATE lightners (otherwise their outlook would be much more like Spades King) but I feel like being around for so long and eventually having their use worn out has made them see things in a different light over the years

anyway for my actual answer: in terms of direct inspiration, it doesn't really happen much? the last two times i did art directly based on someone else's work is probably this one from this fic, and also that time i drew art of someone else's judgment au. oh! and there's that moriohpsycho art based on this comic! (filthyguts' work is so very. hgngngghh. very good.) nothing else really comes to mind, and when i think of the other things i've been into recently there hasn't been as much opportunity for that to happen...

flex and herds = strong fixation but lmao. almost nobody else made stuff about them. nobody is surprised umineko = surprisingly i don't read much umineko fanfiction? and in terms of illustration, i certainly picked up imagery and indirect inspiration but nothing concrete enough for me to give an example... now that i think about it, i did once draw andromalius from redaction/sunny, but that was years ago, and also mostly because i was acquainted with the writer. ...i don't have that artwork on hand right now death note = didn't really get involved with the fandom + i enjoyed my own ideas well enough! ...i can't recall if i drew long-hair-L art before or after seeing other artists do it. and as for everything else the same kind of reasoning applies. didn't really get involved with the fandom or wasn't really compelled to make art in response to stuff i saw, or i just don't remember anymore.

buuuuuuut if we're opening this up to just... pulling ideas from other people? then yeah, all the time, though that kind of goes without saying when you have a creative hobby. ...it's probably going to be hard to come up with examples of this since it's more ambiguous.

there's uhhhhhh... kuwana listens to nickelback which was a @/four-white-trees invention, wasn't it? (EDIT: and @/overdevelopedglasses!) (not tagging in this post so he doesn't feel obligated to read my big ass ask responses 💀) as of writing this, it's not posted but i did end up making kuwagami art based on a nickelback song so. yknow. there's that LMAO

for sawashiro and arakawa, i do sometimes go reference @/todayisafridaynight 's art to help me with my own. ("how did he draw this part of the suit? oh, like that huh? hmm" <- this kind of thing)

and um. i'm not trying to pander to you (at least not this time), but genuinely it's one of the few examples that come to mind at this moment. but when i was writing my first kuwagami fic, i could feel the influence of the ever-changing on my brain... was turning over some of your ideas there...

I think about this ALL THE TIME. I'VE WRITTEN POSTS ON THIS.

LOV stans who hate Izuku make me scratch my head because he's literally the only reason they exist. Or really, Tomura's weird fixation on Izuku (that was there before Toga and Dabi and everyone else even strolled in) is the reason they exist. Normal villains don't approach their enemies at the mall, reveal their face so that they can give an accurate description to the police (whereas before they had no idea what his face looked like), and vent their feelings out to them. Force information out of them? Sure, why not. Pretty normal villain thing to do. Not in a mall, but still if he were threatening his life for info, that'd be more expected than him venting his damn feelings (about wondering why people don't pay attention to him--it's really a mystery why that would irritate him huh/j). Like, if not for Tomura feeling like he was familiar enough with green boy from watching him from afar to approach him and ask for advice, LOV wouldn't exist. Toga and Dabi would have fucked right off.

prev post really made me think that i want to make more post going into depth about certain characters or themes of The Idiot. unfortunately i don't have the energy to type anything coherent right now, but here are already some of my thoughts and maybe i can come back to them at some other time to make a decent post about all this

For example i think there are interesting thematic comparisons to make with Nastasya, Myshkin and Ippolit (but also other characters as well), like their role as outsiders. the way all three of them are put outside of what society is comfortable with due to something that is outside of their control. add to that that their emotions and behaviours are seen as impropre, too much or erratic. as a result they get misunderstood and/or dismissed by other characters (see my prev post about loneliness in the idiot).

An other interesting factor is their struggle with agency. (which i think is also kind of symbolized by the ever present Holbein's The Body of the Death Christ painting). The struggle of agency over their bodies, as well as agency over their lives. The way (especially in Nastasya's and Ippolit's case) they try to take action in the face of certain or perceived doom. In one case this action fails, only solidifying his lack of agency and making him even more the object of ridicule instead of fulfilling his desire to finally be taken seriously. In the other case she succeeds in her own self-destruction and with that plays right into the idea that she really was doomed from the beginning, leaving it forever uncertain if maybe things could have gone differently.

Lastly, tho this point connects with the above two as well, i think this book is a really intersting case to have a discussion about the disabled identiy and what that means in 19th centrury literature. As well as for different characters, given that these are all fully fleshed out people that go much further than the disabled stereotype. There's for example the opposing way Ippolit and Myshkin go about their disabled identity. It would be interesting to study the way they get treated as well as the way they treat others (many of them also falling into the disabled category).

Ah there's so much more to say about this, but like i said, i really don't have the engergy to type more right now :(
